New in Artisan 2 is the ability to model using real-time. These larger topo lines were then used by Toposhaper to generate full terrain. In CAD I connected local more detailed survey topo lines to these larger context topo lines. Using TIG’s Contour Maker I generated larger context topo lines. This tool provided an inexpensive way to perform some basic boolean operations and worked with both SketchUp Make (free) or Pro. I did that by importing 3d terrain into sketchup. About 20 months before SketchUp Pro 8 released the Solid Tools, (way back in Dec 2008), the original BoolTools plugin for SketchUp was released. It is perfect for designers to create Terrain, Furniture, Characters, Abstract Sculptures, Fabric, curtains, and pillows, Rocks, tree trunks, and plants and much more. Artisan includes a set of deformation tools that allow you to sculpt, smooth, flatten, pinch and apply textures just like you would with a brush. My model also merged the larger site context from google (back in 2016), which I think had to stitch together with more detailed survey model. Artisan is a SketchUp extension filled with powerful organic modeling tools. Based on Dale’s popular Subdivide & Smooth tools, Artisan is perfect for people who want to use SketchUp to model organic shapes and terrain features. In those cases I use sandbox loft/depress to correct the grades as needed, which is fussy but works. The downside to Toposhaper is the smoothing algorithm slightly deviates from the survey data, which can misleading when doing fine grading correlated with specific spot elevations from the survey. I usually have to draw footprints in 3d to bridge the gaps and not deform the terrain adjacent to the break. The trouble spots are retaining walls / vertical grade breaks. That is what I used to generate my terrain from survey data. For generating nice structured triangular mesh, I second Toposhaper.
